IGBEAKU ORJI reports on the recent interface between members of the OUK movement and the Reality organization, two political support groups funded by the Chief Senate Whip, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, to revamp their electoral machine ahead of the general election from 2023
As the clock ticks towards the 2023 general election, any savvy political observer will agree that the battle will be titanic in Abia State, the most crucial being the governor’s office.
No party or candidate, who is serious about grabbing a job, will mess with preparations and preparatory work. For those who are really serious, this is the time to mobilize and strategize for battle.
It’s time to maintain, re-equip, lubricate and deploy the tanks for battle. And in an effort to reinvent winning strategies in previous election victories, a former Governor of Abia State and Senator representing Abia North in the National Assembly, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, last week convened his Camp Neya, Igbere’s country home, a reunion of his political family members, the OUK movement and the Reality organization, who seem to have taken a back seat since he left the post of governor of the Abia State. Reality Organization and OUK Movement are political groups present in all 295 wards of the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC).
It was Reality Organization founded by Kalu’s mother, the eldest (Mrs) Eunice Uzor Kalu who drove the cart through which Kalu won victory, first as a member of the House of Representatives and then as as governor. Reality Organization remained relevant throughout his tenure, growing and growing into an international organization with overseas offices and branches.
Kalu not only became governor, but his siblings also became prominent political players. For example, Nnanna Uzor Kalu won the Aba North/South Federal Constituency seat, while Mascot Uzor Kalu became the chief of staff to Kalu’s successor, Chief Theodore Orji. Similarly, the OUK Movement has been a formidable political structure behind the electoral victories of its members, including Senator Kalu.
Interestingly, Kalu kept the political groups alive, active and functional. In politics for some time now, he masters the tricks of the trade. First as a member of the House of Representatives, then as a governor and now as a senator, all elective offices,
Kalu has undoubtedly come a long way. He knows what it takes to win elections. It is the same structure that worked against all odds to deliver Kalu’s successor as governor, who became Senator Orji in 2007. There is no doubt that pro groups and political structures are key to winning elections. .
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) lost the 2015 gubernatorial election in Abia State
mainly due to the absence of these factors. Beyond popular goodwill, there were no stakeholders to defend the party’s votes. Despite this fact, some politicians are still under the illusion that the rabble is enough to win and maintain electoral victory. The truth is that few politicians have the ability to build and finance political structures.
Electoral victory is not a game of chance. Either you have the structure or you belong to an existing structure. Senator Kalu is aware of the crucial role of the political structure and that it will be futile to attempt the battle of 2023 without the strength of the groups.
On the other hand, groups, organizations or structures cannot accomplish anything without a competent leader. And with Kalu in the lead, organizations are driven and determined to achieve incredible feats. They are sure that Kalu will support them till the end as he promised.
“You know I’m not coming back as a governor or a member of the House of Representatives. Nor am I coming to become a member of the House of Assembly. It is among you that the next governor will emerge.
It is you who provide the presidents and the councilors of the local authorities. The members of the House of Assembly and the House of Representatives will come from you. And you know our slogan, whoever works will be rewarded,” he said.
He reminded them that it was time to mobilize for the 2023 election in order to seize vital functions, in particular the seat of the governorate of Abia since the term of the incumbent governor will end in 2023. infantrymen, you are fishers of men. go home
and make sure you have the voter’s card. Also persuade your family members to do the same, for this is the weapon of war,” he said. The Chief Senate Whip also reminded members of both groups of the need to be united, saying obstacles would be easily overcome with a common goal.
The turnout was overwhelming and Kalu confessed that he hadn’t considered the crowds that came to the meeting. He had planned a few hundred people in the lawn tennis court at his home, but the overflow was far beyond the capacity of the tennis court. People stood in the enervating heat with the excitement of having bounced off the political account.
Addressing the crowd, Member representing Bende in the House of Representatives and House Spokesperson, Hon. Ben Kalu, said Senator Kalu had the greatest impact ever in Abia North in the Senate. He reminded members of the organizations that being with Kalu meant being with victory and urged them to remain steadfast.
“There’s not a day when he doesn’t raise a question about Abia North on the Senate floor. Starting with Budget 2022, bigger things are going to happen in the Senate area,” he said. declared.
Also speaking, OUK Movement Chairman Engr Ndukwe Agu called for greater support for Senator Kalu whose representation in the Senate has turned Abia North into a huge construction site.
He said he brought unprecedented infrastructural development to Abia North. Former Member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, Hon. Arua Arunsi, reminded members of both groups that the greatest asset in politics is loyalty
high. He added that they should cooperate in the effort to revive the two organizations for a future electoral victory. The Senator’s mother and Founder of Reality Organization, Elder (Ms) Kalu and her brother and former Member of House of Representatives for Aba North and South, Hon. Nnanna Uzor Kalu, were among other dignitaries present to encourage the members. Senator Kalu clarified that the meeting was not for party members but for the domestic political family that will determine who will be where in 2023.
He said: ‘The biggest job the family has to do is to become the governor of the state, and so bring it back to the good old days when I was governor. You know the family motto: He who works will be rewarded. You can be sure that no one will usurp or displace others after the job is done.
“When I was governor, teachers were paid, students went to school for free, that’s what we want to get back to. Keep that in mind when you go back to your halls.
Now, as a Senator, I have taken Abia North higher than others, not only in Abia State but across the country. I am the only senator to have brought development to all local government constituent areas and beyond. I am building a road to Ariaria in Abia Sud. I am building another in Isiala Ngwa Sud because of one of my assistants who has no road to his community.
He also used to participate in events to appeal for the support of President Muhammadu Buhari who he said meant well for the Igbo people and Nigeria in general.
After Kalu’s warning, there was no doubt that members of the Reality Organization and the OUK movement needed better motivation than the former governor’s assurances to provide to support any candidate they chose as their candidate. for governor in 2023.
