Weeks after a pro-Trump mob attacked the United States Capitol building, the National Association of Realtors suspended all federal political donations, Inman reported.
“Following last Tuesday’s PRPP board meeting, our association is temporarily suspending federal political disbursements,” NAR spokesman Wes Shaw said in an emailed statement. “NAR will continue to closely monitor events in Washington in the days and weeks to come to ensure that our political participation closely represents the will of our member real estate agents and the best interests of US real estate. “
Through its political action committee, Realtor PAC, the trade association makes financial contributions to local, state and national campaigns. The PCB Board of Directors is responsible for deciding disbursements to federal applicants.
The group claimed it did not favor Democrats or Republicans, but supported candidates who support the “Realtor Party” – that is, those who support real estate issues, according to Inman.
The NAR was a major donor to members of Congress who contested President-elect Joe Biden’s victory in the Electoral College, donating more than $ 1.27 million to what critics called the “caucus”. of sedition ”.
Many other industry trade groups are reviewing their policies regarding political donations, while some, like NAR, have halted donations altogether in the wake of the unrest on Capitol Hill.
